Every Saturday I post about current youth opportunities that are open to submissions from Ontario residents, which naturally includes a lot of contests and competitions open to youth across Canada and the US. Please note I'm not attesting to the legitimacy or quality of anything listed here - read the fine print carefully and make your own judgement call, especially if a submission fee is involved!

This week I've just got a couple of contests open to young filmmakers. Happy Saturday all!


2011 What’s Your Story video contest
• Residents of Canada (excluding Quebec), the UK and the US, 13 years of age and older
• April 5th, 2011
The Trend Micro "What's Your Story?" video contest is looking for short videos dealing with
• Being A Good Online Citizen
• Using A Mobile Phone Wisely, or
• Maintaining Your Privacy Online
The grand prize is $10,000USD with six $500USD category prizes also available. Visit the website to read all the rules and regulations and to watch some of the category winners from last year. Here's the grand prize winning entry from 2010, Overexposed by Nicholas Chen and Edan Freiberger:




2011 Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival
• Film's director must be a resident of the GTA and between the ages of 18 and 28 inclusive by July 1st, 2011
• Submission deadline April 29th, 2011
The 2011 Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival, which will take place on the weekend of June 18th, is now accepting films for consideration. Films can be a maximum of twenty minutes long and a $10 submission fee is required. There are a variety of awards given out during the festival, but filmmakers must be in attendance to win.
